Online Class: Illustration & Imaginative Art
I’ll be teaching my Imaginative Art and Illustration class online again this summer. I coach folks through the steps to make imaginative art and illustration.
Explore your imagination! Illustration is a story or idea told through a picture. It could be a picture of a dragon, an interpretation of an historical event, or an abstract concept made visible. The possibilities seem endless. Students will be guided through the picture making process that Christine uses for her commercial and personal work: idea generation, preparatory work, and on to a final picture. Emphasis will be placed on composition and visual storytelling.
The first 4 classes will include lectures on the imaginative art process, brainstorming, composition, and color. During each class, critiques and discussion will be done in a supportive group atmosphere. When applicable, Christine will do draw-overs in Photoshop of students’ work.
You do not need to do digital art to take this class. Students may choose to work in the medium with which they are comfortable. You may choose to work in a traditional media and photograph your work for review each week. Using The Atelier’s Google Classroom, Christine will access your work in order to review your project each week. Students will need a Gmail account. This system is for class review of projects only. We will meet online via Zoom. Contact me with questions or concerns.

Gestural Figure Study
I’m excited to be teaching this class once again.
I use gesture every time I create a piece or character art for clients, or in my own work. It’s a tool I highly value as it helps tell the “story” of something. Gesture is more than quick drawings, it’s the life of a figure drawing. Breathe life into your figure drawings by building a deeper understanding of gesture. This class will mesh The Atelier and Studio Arts figure study methods. We’ll practice how to use it by first exploring what gesture is, and different ways to study it. We will be drawing from a live model.
